Urban Post Black (EP)

Favorite track: Post.
Ippocalyptica

Ippocalyptica The Order ov the Black Arts strikes again! SALQIU really hooked me for the first time with the incredible Ignóbil and Lazarus Denied, and I foolishly believed that these stylistic trends would persist for longer. Nuno, however, has different ideas that surpass the comprehension of mere mortals, and Urban Post Black, while instantly recognisable as SALQIU, continues to explore new and fertile sonic territory. Atmospheric and experimental black metal for those unafraid to embrace the unknown! Favorite track: Post.

bcb723 Straight left turn from Salqiu which dives into 90's industrial urban decay with an undercurrent of metal and dark techno to match the creepily hushed distorted vocals. This is a new style obviously... but does it still match the greatness of Nuno's other work? Fuck yes it does - let's see where this goes. Favorite track: Post.

YomaBarr I wouldn't mind Nuno staying on this path for a while, not at all.
This is not as different as you would think, Salqiu's unique signature is all over the place. Yet, trying to escape the city metaphor, this is like a salmon jumping a waterfall compared to that murky catfish pond Salqiu moved in earlier.
Can a thing be clear and dirty at the same time? So, this is. Like a broken window on the 30th floor of a tower block.
p.s. the bass is delirious.

Urban 03:30
Here I go again, focused on myself. Remembering, analyzing, Memorializing tragedy. Thinking, endless thinking. Suicides, deaths, past losses. Pining about depression and suffering. The life I had to let go. All I left behind. And the cemetery lots. My mind wonders around in circles. From darkness to darkness, city to city, Job to job, decision to decision To the outside world I say adieu. I was lost in the hollow of myself. And outside of myself, still I found no peace. Memories blot out urban chaos Struggles still painful. Despite all I changed

Post 03:12
I am the heir of omnipotence, born with a direct connection to the lack of abundance The one whose words will age, with no substance; since there are no boundaries attached to my pen I am constant dark matter Chanting this hollow self time after time Vulnerable to tyranny, yet I strive attempting to share my emptiness through this abstract language I am the core I am more of what I am less I am the rhythm that the wind blows I am the beginning and the ending of stories untold about the city, about the trash I’ll never accept that I am an absolute reality of me And the city doesn’t care

Black 01:55
This empty shell remains picked clean by hungry vultures ravenous with greed. Gouged-out eyes now bare hollow sockets vacant in their stare. Morsels of choice parts deftly stripped or torn away— and gutted vitals, furtively devoured, have filled the wanton needs of scavengers who shared the feast. This carcass rests flat on bony frame supported once by plump, round legs on which it hardly ran. Here it lies— a brittle, empty shell— the poor abandoned self on the darker side of the city.

about

THIS IS WAY DIFFERENT, so listen before make your call.

Name inspired (and EP dedicated to) by the words of Ivan Gossage on the photo I took. This is a night view of Recife, taken from an upper floor of where I live.

The music is not compared to anything I did. This is so different, so out there that even I was hesitant in releasing it.

But I growingly have been convincing myself that it doesn't matter. Whatever I may do, it really does not matter.

So, here you have it, a slab at complete urban lunacy, showing its ugliness and its beauty. It's rotten soul and the harmonies of those who seek the positive.
In the end, what really stands is that THIS IS WAY DIFFERENT!

THE BACKGROUND STORY:

This is Recife, a northeastern city in Brazil and the Capital of the state of Pernambuco. I've been living here for almost 3 years. The city has this very deep dichotomy of beauty and chaos, of richness and extreme poorness. It is a typical and perfect Brazilian portrait.
Despite being mid-class, I live in a good neighborhood. The other day, just below my window, there was this young man sleeping in the pavement, in a cardboard, with a pair of old and dirty shorts as his only belongings. It deeply troubled me. As it troubles me the view from the old part of the town across the river, where a favela is the landscape. The locals say it's a "great view, beautiful landscape".
It troubles me that, if you travel by night leaving Recife, for about 30 miles all you see is lights all over the slopes, valleys and small mountains. It's so beautiful, like a sea of stars had fallen out to Earth...until you do the same road again during the day and see that the sea of lights is an endless favela where literally 2 million people live. The whole thing is surreal.
I tried to capture the surreal, the beauty and the ugly in these tracks. I tried to capture my feelings about this city.
Maybe this will make you understand better the concept.

This is my soundtrack for Recife, the city I live in Brazil.
